Pancakes for 1,000 Islanders, guests raises $5,000
Who helped make the 2008 breakfast a success
More than 1,000 folks enjoyed pancake breakfasts July 12 and 13, 2008; 792 Saturday and 392 Sunday, leading to an approximate increase in the Kiwanis Community Fund of around $5,500 to be granted to island individuals and organizations in coming months.
Volunteers who helped make this happen include:

FRIDAY
George Baxter, purchased pancake mix, supervised mixing pancake batter at Bob’s Bakery, 2:30 pm Friday, July 11. Helping Friday with mixing batter were Jean Bosch, Clancy Cole, Andy Parker, and Jay Becker.

SATURDAY
Joyce Smith sold tickets at the Bill Burby Fun Run, 7-8 am.
Ed Williams, set up tables and chairs, covered tables, place garbage cans, 6 am Saturday, July 12. Kiwanis volunteers involved included Dave Parker, Jim Scott, Trux Craven, Jay Becker.
Dave Parker collected all equipment, purchased food except pancake batter, ingredients and ham, purchased necessary equipment for serving operation, supervised cooking and flipping and ham serving beginning 6:30 am Saturday, July 13. Helping flip were Mike Quenneville, Andy Parker, Clancy Cole, Joe Boyd, and Paul Motoyoshi.
Ed Williams, took garbage to the dump Saturday, July 12. Helping store chairs inside were Dave Parker, Jim Scott, Trux Craven, Jon Flora, and others. Tables went to the beer garden.
Ticket collecting Saturday, 7 am, included Shirley Bushnell, Carol Baxter, Connie Parker, Beth deGroen.
Ray Konrad and Ida Zodrow supervised service of strawberries, Coffee Roasterie coffee, milk and orange juice, and mix orange juice. Key Club and Builders Club members helping included. SUNDAY
Ed Williams, set up tables and chairs, covered tables, place garbage cans, 7 am Sunday, July 13. Scout Troop members helped set up tables, but we didn’t get them on the sign up sheet. Helping were Dave Parker, Jim Scott, Trux Craven.
Dave Parker supervised cooking, flipping operation beginning 7:30 am Sunday, July 14. Helping flip and serve ham were Mike Quenneville, Andy Parker, Clancy Cole, Joe Boyd, Paul Motoyoshi.
Trux Craven, supervised ham cooking, Dave Parker provided barbeque for warming.

Ed Williams took garbage to the dump at the end of breakfast. Dave Parker’s pick up was loaded with chairs for return by 12:30 pm Sunday, July 13 to make way for classic auto show and Parker towed the grill away about 1 p.m. Helping with final pick up and clean up were Mike Quenneville, Dave Parker, Jim Scott, Ray Konrad, Jay Becker.

JR Crawford and Jay Becker produced and coordinated advertising and publicity in the Beachcomber, Loop, and Voice of Vashon radio, and produced 8.5 by 11 goldenrod flyers. John Watkins, Clancy Cole, J.R. Crawford, Tom Denend were involved in presale of tickets Crawford produced. Joyce Smith and Mike Quenneville posted pancake breakfast flyers at merchants’ and professional offices.
