Changing tomorrows with today's action
We change tomorrows today. That's our mission on Vashon Maury Island, make tomorrows better by today's action, for children especially. We consider any need, however.
We believe the most effective way to a stronger community is to give youth a chance to learn, experience, dream, succeed. We believe great things can happen as a result. Experience world wide and on our Island demonstrates this belief is grounded in reality.
We are a small club. The Island is a small community. We are part of Kiwanis in thousands of clubs in 90 countries, with more than 500,000 members.
Internationally since 1994 we have been at work to eliminate iodine deficiency disorder, for example, the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation. It's working.
We-
- believe children are the future,
- take pride in our community,
- want to reach out to those in need,
- enjoy meeting people,
- want to build enduring friendships,
- want to sharpen leadership skills
- seek business contacts,
- want insight into local, national, and international issues.
We meet every Tuesday for dinner at the Sound Food at Valley Center on Vashon Highway SW at 6 p.m. Attendance is not required, just encouraged to keep up. Several members work on a project of their choice like the annual pancake breakfast in the picture above but never come to meetings.
Members pay $120 a year dues. Dinners are generally $15 at the time, but you don't have to eat.
Most meetings have special programs. Programs are usually speakers on topics of local, state, national, or international interest. However, the first meeting of the month is a business and planning meeting without an otherwise special program.
Participation in Kiwanis activities such as special events like the Festival Pancake Breakfast, our main fund raiser, is your choice.
