Kiwanis invites a parade of Islanders and others to tell about the problems of the world and usually how they or somebody is working to resolve those problems.
Among other reasons for this parade is our object of developing, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

We care. We think. We act to make things a little better than before we arrived on this planet.

Some things take longer than others to improve, however, including this forum for discussion of our assets and opportunities. But we are working on it.

Let's try again.
Vashon Kiwanis is small by comparison with other nearby Kiwanis clubs. Yet by partnering with other groups we managed to complete three major projects in the five weeks ending Dec. 24 despite snow;

>
  • Item 1
  • Vashon Kiwanis Toy Drive to make Christmas brighter for 167 Island children,

  • Item 2
  • Vashon Kiwanis Senior Holiday Dinner to maintain community among 90 seniors, some of whome don't get out as much as they used to, and

  • Item 3
  • Leaders are Readers program to provide books to five public and private school libraries unable to buy what their librarians thought would encourage reading.

    The partners who enabled Kiwanis to do so much in so little time are noted on other web pages in this site, but individuals may not be recognized. That's because they wanted to remain anonymous and did.

    What this tells me is that the traditional cultural trait summed up by the simplistic slogan "Islanders take care of Islanders" is just as strong now as 30 years ago when I first heard it. Islanders take care of Islanders. That's one of the things that makies this place special.
